Colombo, Ta. Sunday 19 June 2022
The Sri Lankan government has announced the closure of government offices for a week from Monday as the fuel crisis intensifies in the island nation, which is reeling from the economic crisis. The Sri Lankan Ministry of Education has asked teachers of all government and government-accredited private schools in Colombo to organize online classes from next week.
The rapid depletion of the country’s existing fuel supply has put pressure on Sri Lanka to pay for its imports in foreign currency, which has crippled the country’s economy.
According to a circular issued by the Ministry of Public Administration and Internal Affairs on Friday, the circular allows fewer employees to work on Mondays due to fuel supply restrictions, poor public transport system and difficulties in using private vehicles. According to the circular, all the employees working in the health sector will be present on duty.
