MINSK, Oct 5 (BELTA) — The IBA Board of Directors has rescinded its previous decision to ban Belarusian and Russian athletes from IBA events, Belta has learned from the IBA’s official website.
“The IBA Board of Directors voted to rescind its previous decision and to allow boxers from Russia and Belarus to compete in IBA events with immediate effect. IBA firmly believes that politics should have no influence on sports. Therefore all athletes should be given equal conditions. While respecting its autonomy as an international sports federation, the IBA will remain politically neutral and independent. The IBA calls for peace and remains a peacemaker in any conflict. In addition, the IBA has an obligation to ensure equal treatment to athletes and competition officials, regardless of their nationality and residency.
According to the decision, technical officials from Russia and Belarus will also return to the competitions. Both the Russian and Belarus teams will be able to perform under their own flags, and the national anthem will be played in case they win a gold medal.
